Network introduces you to key fitness industry people

by Analee Matthews | Monday, December 22, 2008

Part of Network's role is to provide you with opportunities to expand and strengthen your own network of knowledge and contacts, so over the coming months we'll introduce you to some of the key players and personalities from within the Australian and global fitness industry.

INTRODUCING... DONNA HUTCHINSON FROM CANADA

Donna Hutchinson is your typical industry "it" girl. She's an all-rounder, having mastered so many roles within the fitness industry she had to give up using business cards! Okay that part about the business cards isn't really true but you get what we mean - she's the bomb! And here's why...

"I've been in the industry for over 16 years and to date there's not much I haven't done. I started my career as a group fitness instructor. I then moved into to personal training and course conducting. I've worked in a management capacity in the private, corporate, public and not-for-profit sector and have owned two businesses."

"Right now I'm working on my second book and have just completed the process for my first book called The How to guide to starting your own personal training business - from business start-up to success. I've dedicated 2009 as my performance year, so I am endeavoring to learn the art of performance through improvisation and story telling. I believe the best way for people to learn is through stories because it keeps students engaged, enthusiastic and creates an enriching learning experience."

"I love working with healthy, vibrant and energetic people. I thrive on the variety and challenges of the industry. Change happens rapidly and I truly believe that to be outstanding you have to keep your toes dangling on the edge."

"Fitness was a hobby or part-time career back when I started. Nowadays, people look to fitness as a career. There's also a lot more variety in terms of fitness options these days; previously it used to be all about the aerobics craze but now fitness has more of a global flavour."

"I think fitness in the future will encompass a more integrated health package with technology as the focal point. To give you an example, perhaps someday there will be a machine in our homes that scan us in the morning. They would tell us what nutrients we were missing from our bodies and what type of exercise regimen we should do. The machine would then send this information to the fridge which would then recommend what we have to eat that day in order to correct the imbalance. If we are out of that item it sends an email to the grocery store to make sure we get it in our next grocery delivery. Information is also sent to the gym so that when we arrive we know what type of program we should do that day in order to workout most effectively. It may sound like a Star Trek episode but that's how I envision the future of fitness."
