Annette Chatterton, BEd (PE)

Founding director of the Australian Institute of Fitness SA & NT, Annette has been an active coach, fitness presenter and lecturer for over 30 years. She has experience in every aspect of the fitness industry, and her passion for fitness and health goes hand-in-hand with her love of aquatics. Annette is a true educator, improving quality of life through exercise.

Jennifer Schembri-Portelli, BEd

Jennifer has pioneered an unparalleled career in the fitness and aquatic industries. As founding director of WETS, international aquatic fitness master trainer, university lecturer and industry advocate, JSP has entertained and enlightened people for over two decades. Her accomplishments and down-to-earth teaching approach were recently recognised when she was awarded the prestigious 2012 Fitness Australia Award for Most Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to the Fitness Industry.

What’s the ‘best’ way of choreographing for aqua classes? Is there a right and wrong way of preparing classes? Join Jenny and Annette as they discuss and present the same aqua moves using two different methods to plan the workout. Enjoy some new moves, experience some new twists on old moves, and have a lot of fun being reminded that it’s the journey, not the destination, that makes the workout. MC

Maria Browning

An international presenter and lead education specialist for the Aqua Zumba program, Maria has choreographed and performed six volumes of continuing education DVDs. She is a former competitive synchronised swimmer, and has choreographed the Colombian synchronised swimming team. Maria has over twelve years experience teaching both land and water-based group exercise, and is certified by AEA, ACE and AFAA.

Maria Teresa Stone

Born in Mexico and now based in Australia, Maria taught her first group exercise class fifteen years ago. Since then she has not stopped learning and growing as a fitness educator and presenter. She has managed fitness facilities in Mexico and the UK, and presented at fitness conventions worldwide. A Zumba® Education Specialist (Master Trainer), she helped launch the program in New Zealand and Australia in 2009.

Zumba Fitness lovers are die-hard party people, so putting Zumba movements into the water was a ‘no-brainer’. Taking up the challenge to create something never seen before, Aqua Zumba® was born! This invigorating Zumba® Pool Party, featuring Latin and international dance rhythms, showcases a uniquely challenging workout that everyone can do. Take home the inspiration to enable not only those that are fit, but also those with disabilities or physical limitations, to join in the Zumba® experience! MC S

Melissa Cameron & Claire Sawatzky

Melissa Cameron Melissa represents youthful energy and innovation in her diverse roles in the aquatic fitness industry. As business manager and lecturer for Water Exercise Training Service (WETS), Melissa demonstrates commitment to forging strong pathways for aquatic fitness in all facets of the industry. Melissa has significantly contributed to the development of the WETS Aqua Instructor, Aquatic PT and Aqua Wellness training programs.

Claire Sawatzky

Claire is an energetic and innovative group exercise and aqua instructor. Through her dedication and enthusiasm for aqua exercise she transforms people's experience of exercising in the water. Through her work with Water Exercise Training Service (WETS), Claire educates instructors on the scientific evidence supporting the benefits of aquatic exercise.

Learn how to inject variety into your aqua repertoire in this interactive theory session exploring formats and movement combinations. Join Claire and Melissa as they workshop innovative strategies to incorporate class concepts and popular athletic drills into aqua fitness sessions. Take home heaps of simple, fresh and effective tools to truly reinvigorate your creativity. L

Dominic Gili

Named Australian Fitness Network's Author of the Year 2012, Dom's passion for aqua fitness is contagious. Since 1993 he has delivered dynamic water workouts and now presents training to new and current instructors across Australia. Founder of AquaFitnessOnline.com, and author of numerous articles, Dom continually aspires to inspire.

Cris Penn, BAppSc

In her 23 years in the fitness industry, Cris has gained vast experience in group fitness instruction. With the unique combination of nursing and teaching experience, Cris' astute knowledge of human movement and biomechanics is a trademark of her presentations. Her personal achievements include multiple medals at recent World Masters Games.

Join Dominic and Cris as they dissect the amazing workout properties of deep water fitness. Using video footage of people working in deep water to illustrate the biomechanics and contraindications of this environment, this theory session enables a greater understanding of safe and effective exercise prescription. The effects of equipment on body alignment and centre of buoyancy are also discussed. L

Stacey Dolliver, BA

A popular and well regarded fitness professional and presenter, Stacey taps into her blend of energy and enthusiasm to promote wellness for people at every age and stage of life. As manager of the fitness centre at the Royal Hobart Hospital and co-owner of Freedom Health & Wellness, Stacey connects with people of all ages, cultures and demographics.

Explore the fundamentals of aquatic training in both shallow and deep water in this high intensity workout session. Join Stacey and Tamara as they demonstrate how to maximise agility, speed, strength, cardiovascular fitness, endurance and flexibility through the use of group fitness activities, drills – and lots of fun! As a long-time participant and devotee of aquatic exercise, Mary has a personal understanding of the unique psychological and physical benefits that aquatic exercise can provide. Keen to share her knowledge and love of aquatic exercise with others, Mary’s specialities are aqua choreography with a high energy dance-feel.

By choosing your words carefully, you can help participants understand water resistance – and work more effectively with it. Join Mary as she reveals how to use verbal cues and imagery to increase participants’ understanding of how they need to move and feel in the water to get the greatest benefit from their aqua workouts. Take home a whole new repertoire of cues that will really help participants to catch your drift! WS

Kerri Parkinson

Australian Fitness Network’s 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Kerri is a highly regarded and motivational aqua instructor and convention presenter. She presents internationally on all aspects of aqua fitness and is a key program developer for the Australia Institute of Fitness’ aqua course.

End your day with a bang by joining Kerri for an innovative take on resistance training in the water – without the need for traditional equipment. Drawing on the principles of traditional HIT training, this session features a series of challenging and powerful one-minute intervals that will not only challenge the fitness level of your participants, but also enhance your repertoire of aqua moves! Marietta is an award winning Australian presenter and Australian Fitness Network Ambassador with over 20 years’ teaching experience in both land- and water-based group exercise. Marietta is also the World Master Trainer and education coordinator for Gymstick International and a Pelvic Floor Ambassador for Continence Foundation Australia.

Stir fried and full of goodness, this noodle session is packed with fresh ideas for this adaptable tool! Join Marietta to learn how to develop cardiovascular fitness and upper body strength by using challenging suspended exercises appropriate for both shallow and deep water.
