// Creative communication makeover

by Effe Diamond

Is your class communication stagnant and in need of a major makeover? If so, it’s time to expand your repertoire of verbal cues. Getting your message across in a creative and interesting way will help to enhance your overall class delivery and performance. To get started,
make it your mission to source at least five alternative words or expressions to describe the commonly used terms listed in the table below:

There is plenty of inspiring material to be found on cycling web sites that can help you expand your verbal cueing repertoire. Google ‘Tour de France’, for example, and you’ll be amazed at how many ideas you can get.

Source both ‘descriptive’ and ‘feeling’ cues from cycling magazines, books and cycling footage. Participate as often as possible in other people’s classes, workshops and master classes and use them as a source of inspiration from which you can take cueing and communication ideas, develop them and make them your own.

Enjoy the makeover!
