Smuggle a budgie to help young
people with high care needs

Looking for a fun fitness event for yourself or a group of clients? What better way to wrap up summer than with The Youngcare Budgie Bolt? This event is an opportunity to help Youngcare create choice, independence and dignity for young Australians with high care needs.

The idea is simple: brave blokes and gutsy gals run six kilometres in Brisbane on Friday 20 March or Sydney on Friday 27 March in Budgie Smugglers or Smugglettes!

Almost 1,000 participants have braved the Bolt in Sydney and Brisbane over the past two years; raising over $395,000 for young Aussies in desperate need.

Youngcare’s mission is to deliver tangible solutions that create a real and immediate impact on the lives of young Australians with high care needs, through accommodation, research, micro grants and a specialised telephone support service.

Youngcare and Budgie Bolt co-founder Nick Bonifant said 2015 will be an exciting time for the charity and particularly the event.

‘Particularly as we celebrate 10 years for Youngcare and five years for Budgie Bolt, so it is a big occasion and we never thought it would get to this stage where there’s so much interest in running around in your budgies’ Bonifant said.

Youngcare Chief Executive Officer, Samantha Kennerley said Budgie Bolt was a vital platform for rallying the support of the community, businesses and governments to raise much-needed awareness and funds.

‘We are working tirelessly to find the solutions that will provide real choices in care options for young people with high care needs and firmly believe that awareness is growing’ Kennerley said.
