This intermediate-level course, in collaboration with the Functional Ageing Institute, provides trainers with a specialist skill set needed to enhance the lives of older adults, by following Loaded Movement Training (LMT) principles and core ViPR™ exercises.

Aims and objectives:

  • Understand the movement needs and wants of the older population
  • Explore the Functional Ageing Training Model
  • Identify the different functional levels for older adults
  • Understand integrated core concepts using ViPR
  • Identify Loaded Movement Training principles
  • Explore different programs for using ViPR effectively with this population

Course creator – FitPro
In 2005, ViPR (as it became known later) was conceived. It was an idea born out of one fundamental objective; to improve human function, and was developed in the ice hockey world by Simon Bennett and physiologist Michol Dalcourt in Canada. Using rough models, the pair found that a hollow weighted tube allowed movement to be more authentic, relating to real-life actions, and simulating common athletic and everyday movements. This effectively bridged the gap between strength and movement training.

In late 2007, Michol approached Brent Hallo (FitPro director) about getting involved to develop, manufacture and distribute the product (with the then working name ‘Reacto’) worldwide. In early 2008, FitPro suggested a change of name to ViPR (standing for Vitality, Performance and Reconditioning) and utilising FitPro resources, some rough samples and a hand-drawn diagram, the road to developing the ViPR product as we know it today began.
