Private, one to one

Compared with a larger facility, a private session buys one coach’s full attention.

If you’d rather train indoors, we can work with a gym Maribyrnong members already use, and you keep your own membership there.

Getting started

What Your First Training Session Covers

We begin with a conversation about your goal, your history and anything your GP has flagged.

  1. 1

    Conversation

Your goal, your history and anything your GP has flagged.

  2. 2

    Pre-Exercise Screening

A Pre-Exercise Screening questionnaire comes next, so we know what to avoid.

  3. 3

    Body composition

If useful, we add a body composition assessment as a starting reference.

  4. 4

    Training session

Then you try a short training session, which shapes your exercise prescription for the weeks ahead.

Price vs value

How this compares with a gym membership

A gym membership gives you access to a facility, but a member usually trains alone. Our price covers a coach who plans, watches and corrects. Whatever option you consider, ask what you actually get each visit.

Programs

How We Program Your Training Week

Every program we write for Maribyrnong personal training clients starts with your goal, your week and your current health, then shifts as your body responds.

How many sessions a week do you need?

For fat loss, we usually plan two strength sessions and two cardio sessions, plus around 10,000 steps a day. If building strength is the goal, three 45 to 50 minute sessions suit many people. We keep to one hard aerobic exercise, boxing or jogging but not both, and everything else easy so recovery keeps up. A typical fat loss week:

  • Two strength sessions with squat, hinge, push and pull patterns
  • Two cardio sessions, one easy and one harder
  • Around 10,000 steps on most days
  • One full rest day with light walking only
  • A short check-in to review food logging and energy

Strength, cardio and recovery in one plan

We change your plan about every four weeks. Resistance training works through progressive overload, small planned increases in load or reps, rather than a one-repetition maximum test. A squat, a hinge and a carry make up functional training for daily life. We avoid heavy leg press, where the weight climbs without your back and core doing their share.

Circuit training can lift cardiovascular fitness on lighter days. We pace hard efforts by rating of perceived exertion rather than a maximal heart rate figure. Your coach adjusts the exercise each week based on your feedback, from general strength training to a sport-specific goal. Each four week block usually runs:

  • Weeks one and two: learn the movements and set starting loads
  • Week three: add a little weight or a few repetitions
  • Week four: push a little harder, then reassess
  • Next block: swap exercises and set a new target

Progress & health

When Progress Stalls, or a GP Check Comes First

A steady weight after good progress is a plateau, not a failure.

We restore regular food logging and check-ins, then rebuild the plan. The same exercise physiology principles used at the Victorian Institute of Sport scale down well for everyday clients. When a plateau hits, we usually:

  • Review sleep, stress and food log for two weeks
  • Check loads or repetitions are still climbing
  • Adjust step count or cardio length
  • Rotate in new exercises for the same muscles

Health conditions and injuries

For weight management alongside a health condition or injury, we ask you to complete Pre-Exercise Screening and see your GP first. An accredited exercise physiologist (Exercise and Sports Science Australia accredited) may be the better starting point. Before your first session, we ask you to:

  • Complete the Pre-Exercise Screening form
  • Tell us about injuries, medications or health conditions
  • Share your main goal and the days you can train

Before you hire

What to Check When Choosing a Personal Trainer in Maribyrnong

This is an editorial checklist, not an official one, based on guidance from Victoria’s Better Health Channel.

It says personal trainers don’t have to be registered with a health and fitness industry association, so membership is voluntary in Victoria. When comparing personal trainers in Maribyrnong, ask any trainer, including us:

Questions to ask any trainer

  • For proof of public liability insurance.
  • For proof of professional indemnity insurance.
  • Which association they belong to, if any, and whether they trained through a registered training organisation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should you expect to pay a personal trainer?

Sessions here are $100 per 45min. Rates vary between trainers, so it’s worth comparing what each session includes before you commit to anyone.

Is $400 a month a lot for a personal trainer?

It depends on how many sessions you want each week and what you’re working towards. With sessions at $100 per 45min, a monthly budget simply sets how often you train. Someone chasing a specific goal may want more sessions than someone building a routine.

Does Medicare cover a personal trainer?

Medicare doesn’t generally cover personal training. If you have a health condition or injury, your GP can advise on eligible care, such as an exercise physiologist, and whether a referral applies to you.

Do you come to me in Maribyrnong?

Yes. Australian Fitness Network’s mobile personal training covers the City of Maribyrnong, including Footscray, Braybrook, Essendon and Avondale Heights. We train at your home, in a park along the Maribyrnong River Trail or at your gym.

What happens in the first session?

We talk through your goal, your history and anything your GP has flagged, complete a Pre-Exercise Screening questionnaire and, if useful, a body composition assessment. Then you try a short training session that shapes your program.

How many sessions a week do I need?

For fat loss, we usually plan two strength sessions and two cardio sessions, plus around 10,000 steps a day. If building strength is the goal, three 45 to 50 minute sessions suit many people.
